Railcar Restoration Underway
The Historic RailPark & Train Museum is celebrating a major milestone with an exciting preservation effort! Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of our supporters, we have exceeded our 2024 Railcar Restoration Campaign goal, raising $175,568 to restore and repaint several of our beloved historic railcars.
With restoration work now underway, visitors can witness firsthand how history is being preserved. Our expert restoration team is carefully repairing and revitalizing these iconic railcars, ensuring they continue to tell the story of railroad history for generations to come.
In honor of the L&N Depot’s 100th anniversary in 2025, this restoration project is focused on critical repairs and fresh paint for several of our most historic railcars:
Railway Post Office Car – Receiving exterior repairs and a fresh coat of paint to preserve its historic look.
Duncan Hines Diner – Undergoing sheet metal repairs and a full repaint to restore its charm.
Towering Pine Sleeper Car – Getting seam repairs and repainting to maintain its structural integrity.
Presidential Office Car – Undergoing a complete repaint to bring it back to its former grandeur.
With each repair, layers of history are being uncovered and preserved, ensuring that these railcars remain a vibrant part of the RailPark experience. We are incredibly grateful for the community’s support in helping us surpass our fundraising goal. Seeing the restoration team at work is a powerful reminder of how these railcars connect us to history. This effort ensures that their stories will continue to be shared for generations to come.
This restoration project is only possible because of the dedicated supporters, donors, and sponsors who believe in the importance of preserving rail history. From Primer Sponsors ($25 donations) to Color Club members ($1,000 donations) and Railcar Sponsors underwriting full restorations, every contribution has played a crucial role in making this work a reality.
While the restoration is still in progress, the impact is already visible. New paint is bringing vibrancy back to the railcars, structural repairs are ensuring their longevity, and the RailPark is becoming an even more immersive and engaging destination for visitors of all ages.
